Michael Parola

Percussion Instructor: Technique, Musicianship, Audition Preparation

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: My goal is to create a friendly, supportive atmosphere that is sensitive to each student’s needs and capabilities, which can include a more focused path for those who are interested in Middle, High School or College Audition Preparation. We work together to advance the student’s knowledge and ability in all areas of percussion playing and musicianship including: classical and popular drumming, keyboard mallet technique and timpani technique/tuning/ear training.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I have taught for many years on the college level at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music and Florida Atlantic University and also privately in Palm Beach County with students attaining entrance to the Bak Middle and Dreyfoos Schools of the Arts.

EDUCATION: Bachelor of Fine Arts: Purchase College; Master of Music: Stony Brook University
Doctor of Musical Arts-Percussion Performance: Stony Brook University

PERFORMING: I am the Founder and percussionist of the Core Ensemble and have over 25 years of national and international touring experience with hundreds of performances and master classes in every region of the U.S. and abroad.  I have commissioned and premiered multiple works for solo percussion and have performed as an orchestral timpanist in the American premieres of works by Verdi, Donizetti and Shostakovich.
